Unless you are a one man show, there is no way that a business owner who wishes for his company to expand and do well can do so without the help of at least a few employees. Some businesses can get by with only a few and world wide businesses can have thousands of employees to keep their company at the top of success and competition. Many times the success or failure of a company will largely depend on the performance of those employees because the boss can not always be there to deal with every situation. That is what most of employees are for.
For some jobs there are certain criteria that a potential employee must meet and for other jobs training might be needed. In either case it is the attitude of the employee that will inevitably determine whether that employee will be an asset or a liability for your business. Sometimes an employee can do more damage to your company that they are helping.
Every employee generally has a specific set of duties that they will need to perform. Whether an employee works behind the scenes seeing that certain things get done or whether they are working directly with the public, it could affect the way your company is perceived by those you do business with. If a person who works in your shipping department that is responsible for orders getting out on time is lax in his or her duties and shipments are sent out late or overlooked all together, it will have a negative affect.
If an employee was hired to deal directly with customers or other buyers and has a bad personality, it will also have a negative affect. It is a reflection on you when it comes to the people you hire. It can make you appear not to take an interest in who you put forth to attend your valuable customers even if you are not aware that an employee is being rude, careless, or simply too inexperienced to do their job properly. Sometimes an employee just might not have the confidence that it takes to deal with customers.
You should always screen your potential employees well to determine if you even want them to work for you or not. If they meet your requirements and you believe they will be dependable, then you should still make sure you place them in the position that is best suited to them. You do not want a person who is shy and introverted waiting on clients. Usually every good employee has something to give, just make sure you know what it is and use it to the best advantage of your company.
