Debt consolidation is a means to an end. I mean in order to get out of debt you must begin paying it down. Rather than paying multiple interest rates to multiple companies , each with unseen interest charges or overdue charges that means paying hundreds of dollars more than the original sticker price.
While in college, I began my debt accumulation by using several credit cards without care or knowledge of the overall impacts they would have in the future. Once I had accumulated a sum total of approximately 10,000 in debt with no job and little means to pay the minimums I began looking at consolidating debt to lower interest rate credit cards that allows for reduced payments.
Paying one credit card company, although the debt looks larger, reduces your overall payments in that interest is only accruing on one card. It also means that those unseen charges are only accumulating on one card. I routinely paid the minimal transfer fees to get lower and lower interest rates, further lowering my overall payoffs through reducing long-term interest charges. It also seemed to improve my credit scores so that I got more and better interest rate offers. Lower interest means lower payments, less debt accumulation, and lower annual finance charges.
In my opinion the use of debt consolidation is a means to reduce the stress that ultimately comes with carrying debt. I am proud to say that since 2008 debt consolidation for me will be a thing of the past since I have reduced my entire debt to zero. Since the use of debt consolidation has worked to remove debt it is amazing the money that you have for those extravagant purchases.
A secondary benefit is the fact that lower debt improves the buying power of the individual. When you are in debt a percentage of the monthly budget goes to interest on the debt. Without debt none of the budget is used for interest rates. The beautiful thing about debt consolidation is that eventually the sales that you purchase items on will actually be a sale. I no longer pay more than the sticker price for my purchases and its all thanks to 10 years of debt consolidation and better purchasing power.
Carrying a debt burden is not the end of the world. Contact your creditor and start the road to recovery today.
