If you find yourself in over your head with debt, you may be heading for credit card debt default. A default of this nature can affect your life in so many negative ways that you should do whatever you can to never find yourself in this situation.

In these times of severe economic uncertainty, many people are using credit cards to pay for the essentials of life such as food, clothing, gas, etc. Many individuals need to use credit in this manner because they’ve lost their job or their hours have been scaled back due to the severe recession.

It’s difficult to fault an individual who uses their credit cards to buy the necessities of life when the only other alternative is to do without essentials. These individuals would never use their credit cards in this manner unless they were forced to by the sad state of the economy.

When people are desperate, short of robbing a bank, they will do most anything to make sure their family is cared for and there is food for their children. They understand that using their credit cards in this manner will make it difficult each month to meet the minimum monthly payments.

On the flip side there are individuals who are simply careless with their spending and the use of a credit card seems like play money to them. These are the individuals who are most at risk of credit card default because they simply avoid acknowledging that their spending is more a choice than a necessity.

These people often have innumerable credit cards and when one card reaches its limit they move on to the next card. They will rarely pay more than the monthly minimum, which will compound the interest on the balances at a staggering rate.

The ramifications of ending up defaulting on your credit card debt can be profound and long lasting. For instance, you can be sued and receive a judgment against you that will garnish your wages for as long as it takes to pay off the balance. Also, your credit will be ruined for the foreseeable future.

If you are forced to use your credit cards because of current financial misfortune, it is likely you will pay off your high balances when your financial situation stabilizes. You understand the risk of using your cards in a dangerous manner but know it is only temporary. Conversely, if you are reckless in your credit card spending, there is a high probability that defaulting on your credit card debt will occur if you fail to recognize your spending faults.
