One of the most basic rights in all of society is the right of self defense. There are few rights in America more basic to our way of life than the right to our own personal security and self defense. Many consider the right to bear arms the backbone of our democracy.

Yet for many people a lethal alternative is too much. That is where non lethal self defense products come in. Self defense items like pepper sprays, stun guns, Tasers, etc. have grown in popularity in the last decade or so because of their affordability and effectiveness.

Man has always had to defend what was rightfully his from stronger outsiders. At first he did it by carrying a bigger stick (literally). Over the years the evolution of weapons has changed and society has changed with it.

Both the stronger and weaker in a fight would look for ways to gain an advantage-just human nature. Adversaries will use anything to gain an edge in a fight and maybe turn the tables for a victory which could be your life.

Today law enforcement can\'t really protect us. Their resources get spread thinner each day. Individuals must assume more responsibility for their own safety and develop a personal security strategy.

1. Purchase and learn how to use self defense products. It can be pepper sprays, stun guns, personal alarms, Tasers or a combination. Then learn how to use them.

2. Learn some basic martial arts self defense techniques. Self defense DVD\'s are a great teaching tool and can be a family project-to learn together. Self defense techniques are a great way to build your confidence.

3. Practice in different emergency scenarios. When and if the time comes you know exactly what to do instead of wondering what to do. Practice with a friend, neighbor, or your family so it becomes instinctive and reflexive. In an emergency you really have no time to think.

These three things you will increase your confidence and your actual ability to defend yourself and your family. Self confidence is a huge part of a personal security strategy.

Remember a self defense weapon is meant to give you time to get away from a dangerous situation. They are not meant to injure or maim-they just won\'t/can\'t do that.

Chances are if you are reading this that crime has touched your life in some way or you consider yourself at risk. Take the next step and do something to protect yourself! Your life and safety is worth far more than the cost of a stun gun or pepper spray.

If you are in the market for a self defense product look for quality, effectiveness, and a biggie-LEGALITY. Stun guns, tasers and pepper sprays are not legal in some states. Check with your local police department first before you get one.
