How Vaporizers Alleviate Breathing Problems

Cool mist vaporizers are very effective in relieving breathing problems for those who suffer from asthma or respiratory infections. When the air in your home is too dry, then nasal passages can also become dry and irritated. The result can be nose bleeds, dry and itchy skin, and increased static electricity in the air. When the nose is dry, then there is also an increased risk of bacterial infections, resulting in colds and nasal congestion.

Cool mist vaporizers add moisture to the dry air by spinning small water droplets into the air. The water is at room temperature when dispersed, as no heating element is used. These vaporizers are useful in treating congestion caused by colds, flus, and other respiratory complications. When moisture is added to the air, breathing becomes easier as congestion is loosened in the nose and breathing passages.

Average humidity levels in the home should be between forty and fifty percent to maintain a healthy immune system. When the humidity level drops below this point, then breathing problems can develop. Doctors often recommend increasing the humidity in the home if someone is suffering from a respiratory infection.

To increase the humidity level in your home, you can use a steam vaporizer, a humidifier, or a cool mist vaporizer. Although each of these methods is effective and recommended by doctors, cool mist vaporizers are safer to use. The difference in these units is a humidifier or cool mist vaporizer adds cool water to the air, while a steam vaporizer boils the water then releases the steam into the air.

The cool mist vaporizer is comprised of a reservoir that contains the water, a drum that spins the water, and a spout to disperse the water droplets into the air with a fine mist spray. They are easy to use, and relatively inexpensive to operate. Cool mist vaporizers are safe and effective to use in a child's room, as they do not use a heat source so there is no chance of being burned. Children may accidentally bump into the unit or knock it over when playing near and around the vaporizer, so any cords should be kept out of reach of children.

Cool mist vaporizers must be kept meticulously clean, as there is a chance of spreading bacteria and molds that exist in the water and multiply in moist conditions. Water often contains minerals that can also be dispersed through the air. The minerals may cause a fine layer dust to appear in the room, but using distilled water can alleviate this problem. When living in warmer climates, the cool mist vaporizer can be refreshing by adding cool water droplets to the air.

Steam vaporizers operate by first boiling the water, and then releasing the hot steam into the air. Because the water is boiled, any bacterium that is present in the water is destroyed so there is less chance of spreading infections. In cold climates, steam vaporizers add a warm, cozy feeling to the room.

Both vaporizers and humidifiers should have the water changed daily to discourage bacterial and mold growth. Those people who suffer from allergies must be aware that too much humidity in the air can cause an environment that enhances bacteria and dust mites to multiply.
