The first thing to do is to purchase the correct re-filler kit. The right one for your printer will have everything required to refill the toner cartridge. The laser toner cartridges that refill via their side supply a hole to administer the toner. These have a plug to removed in order to fill the cartridge. Some cartridge need a hole made for putting the new toner in them.
Refill Hole Supplied
These cartridges just need the plug taken out to start filling them. This is done with a flat-head screwdriver. The un-used portion can be emptied into a trash can. To loosen up the powder toner shake it gently. Take the cap and seal off, put the funnel cap on the toner bottle, securing it snugly. Slant the tone bottle and insert the funnel into the cartridge.
The toner will flow at a slow pace, it might stop prior to the cartridge being fully filled. If so, disengage the toner refill bottle from the cartridge, put the cap back on, turn the bottle over, and tap its bottom, when it begins to flow once more, begin filling the cartridge again.
After filling, put the plug into the cartridge, giving it a turn to make sure it is in securely. Now, carefully move the full cartridge left and right to mix the toner completely.
No Refill Hole In Cartridge
For this type of cartridge a special tool is required; it s with the right refill kit. Put the tool on its provided stand and plug it in to let it heat up. That requires 3 minutes or a little more. A little circle is usually drawn on the cartridge, where the hole should be made. Put the heated copper bit of this tool in the center of the indicated area and melt a hole. When done, put the tool on the stand and let it cook down. A bit of plastic may have fallen into the cartridge, if so take it out prior to filling up the cartridge. Otherwise, the bit of plastic could disrupt the printing process. Put the plug in, after filling and give it a slight twist to secure it tightly.
Three Kinds of Toner Cartridge
The first utilizes a drum and a primary charge roller, which continually charges the drum, so it can resist the toner allowing the printing to happen. The coating on the drum can be damaged and the drum needs replacement, if damaged. This kind of cartridge has a wiper blade that cleans off any un-used toner. This blade has to be changed out, if it is chipped.
Some makers utilize a corona wire, not a primary charge roller for charging the drum; this wire can break and then needs a replacement. It can be cleaned with alcohol when it is dirty or corroded. This has to be done with gentleness to keep from breaking it.
The last type of toner cartridge has a developer roller. There is a formula made to clean it; it needs replacing when scratched.
